| Blazing a new trail
Following a two-year stint in Germany during World War II, McCabe returned to Ganado, Ariz., on the Navajo reservation to a wife and children. Prior to the war, McCabe married Alice Curley, of the Tachiinii tribe, in the 1930s. The pair raised 15 children together. McCabe worked as an artist and surveyor as Alice tended to the homestead. In her spare time, Alice was a shepherd with a knack for weaving. While McCabe served overseas, the reservation suffered a severe work shortage. By the time he returned, no irrigation systems remained for farming. The only way to make a living was raising sheep and cattle, a far less lucrative venture than a prospering, small plantation. McCabe had a wife and, at the time, two children to provide for. The proud father wanted his kids to have the best educational opportunities, which required a life-altering move.

Virgin Media are hell bent on self destructing :-(
Now, three Internet providers in Britain have teamed up to try to obtain a piece of online advertising for themselves. The three companies — BT, Carphone Warehouse and Virgin Media — announced a deal last week with a company called Phorm, whose technology tracks Web users and sends them ads related to their interests. Phorm said it would set up a new online advertising platform called the Open Internet Exchange, which any Web site would be allowed to join. Proceeds from ads shown on these publishers' sites will be shared with BT, Carphone Warehouse and Virgin Media, which together represent more than two-thirds of Britain's Internet access market. The three Internet providers have agreed to give Phorm access to customers' browsing records, letting it track a Web user's every move.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Troy Aikman says it's a sure thing: Brett Favre will have second thoughts about hanging up his helmet. The Hall of Fame quarterback knows how hard it is to walk away from the NFL and never look back. Even after a series of concussions led Aikman to retire from the Dallas Cowboys after the 2000 season, he was tempted to come back two years later. "I was ready to go and had talked with my wife and everything about it," Aikman said told The Associated Press by phone. Aikman figures Favre will feel the same pull the closer the 2008 season gets. And he wouldn't be surprised if Favre changes his mind and sends heir apparent Aaron Rodgers back to the bench. "You want to walk out on top," said Aikman, now an analyst for Fox Sports.
Motorcyclist, pursued by police, dies after slamming into rig
Hendrickson of New Tazewell died in the 5:54 p.m. Monday crash, according to a report filed by THP Trooper Robert Brooks. Hendrickson was driving a Yamaha motorcycle at a high rate of speed and was being pursued on State Highway 33 by an officer with the New Tazewell Police Department, Brooks noted. Because of the high speeds involved in the chase through New Tazewell, officers terminated the pursuit, according to Brooks' report. Hendrickson continued on State Highway 33 until he encountered a tractor-trailer rig making a turn near the intersection with U.S. Highway 25E. The motorcycle struck the front of the turning trailer. Hendrickson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. David Earl Smith II, 35, of Harrogate, who was driving the rig, was not injured.
Christie: Sport stepping stone to power in China
It's just that, after a brief flurry of appointing actual Ministers of Sport, the feds are back to their old habit of giving Sport short shrift. It's less than 16 months before the Winter Olympics at Vancouver and Whistler – a Games where Canada is expected to stand first in the medals table, according to the Canadian Olympic Committee -- and a junior secretary is in charge of sport. She's the third person responsible for the portfolio since 2006. Michael Chong had the title of Minister for Sport in 2006 but quit the Cabinet because he couldn't stomach Prime Minister Stephen Harper's bestowing the handle of 'nation' for the province of Quebec. When Chong quit, the portfolio got lateralled to Peter Van Loan for two months. Van Loan was still a Minister of the Crown, but one is hard pressed to recalled Peter Van Loan's greatest moments in Sport.
A Do-It-Yourself Facelift for the Car
Even the tiniest scratch on a car can lead to rust, and the loss of hundreds of dollars in the value of your ride. But it can be inconvenient and costly to leave a car at the body shop: Recent research by IBIS World found that auto repair shops in the U.S. do about $35.6 billion of business a year, and about 26% of that is paint repair. To see if we could avoid taking our car into the shop, we tested five car scratch-repair kits, all available online and in some specialty stores. One kit -- Dr. ColorChip -- included paint to match our car. Another retailer, Paintscratch.com, sold matching paint separately. Two others required us to buy paint independently, and one, Simoniz Fix It!, didn't require its product to be used with paint at all. All the products were designed to tackle scratches, not dents and dings.
Crush your Credit Card Debt
It is not an exaggeration of fact that the recent decade has been witnessing an explosion in levels and numbers of credit card debt among the Britons. The relative ease of obtaining plastic money coupled with the anemic growth of wages has inspired more and more Britons to spend more than they make. Many of them are in a regular practice of living on borrowed money. It is easy to collapse under the pressure of crushing credit card debt. But smart people take some sensible steps to protect themselves and their credit worthiness. It is a myth that getting into debt is easy and getting out of debt is difficult. The loan that took only days or weeks to accumulate can take years or even decades to get rid of. You may be aware of the statistics of the BoE that a small credit card balance can take 30 years to pay off if only the minimum payment is made each month.
