| Why you should care that Jimmy Wales ignores reality
Wikipedia is the eighth most popular site on the web. It has the power to tell the world what to believe. Type a few keywords into Google, and odds are, the free online encyclopedia will soon appear. Millions visit the site each day, including members of the mainstream media, and most are under the impression it offers unbiased information. According to a recent study from the PR wonks at Edelman, 55 per cent of all 25- to 34-year-old US "opinion elites" consider Wikipedia a "credible source." But sometimes bias plays a big role. The truth of the matter is that the average surfer has no way of knowing whether the Wikipedia inner circle has skewed an article to suit their agenda. And, yes, there is an inner circle - though the inner circle denies it. Like we said, they have a knack for ignoring reality.

What's Inside Google Android?
From within TraceView, you can view thread interactions, as well as examine execution paths. TraceView also shows the amount of time spent in each method, so you can use the tool as an execution profiler. Finally, there is the Android emulator itself. When started, the emulator displays the skin of a hypothetical android device, complete with specialized faceplate buttons and QWERTY keyboard. It does its best to mimic an actual device, though there are understandable limitations (it cannot, for example, take incoming phone calls). The Android emulator runs a modified version of Fabrice Bellard's excellent open source simulation/virtualization environment, QEMU. Android's version of QEMU simulates an ARM processor, and on that processor executes the Linux OS. Working with Eclipse Once the Android Eclipse plug-in is installed, building an Android application is much like building any other application.
Gift cards often worthless at bankrupt retailers
You know that Sharper Image gift card you got for Christmas? Right now, it's worthless. And other gift cards in your wallet could lose their value, too. As more retailers file for bankruptcy or go out of business, more than $75 million in gift cards are at risk of becoming worthless pieces of plastic this year. .
Company in which O.C. has invested $80 million faces default
A company in which Orange County has invested $80 million may default Thursday. County Treasurer Chriss Street said he believes the county ultimately will get all its money back because "the underlying assets are paying." But the company, Whistlejacket Capital Ltd., just lost its would-be savior and is facing a cash crisis. Whistlejacket's woes point out the risks of Street's purchase of structured investment vehicles, or SIVs. Standard Chartered, the British bank that manages Whistlejacket, said Jan. 31 that it was going to put Whistlejacket on its books to prevent any loss to investors. Later, however, Whistlejacket's assets plummeted in value, leading to the appointment of a receiver and the bank's decision Wednesday not to bail out the $7 billion SIV.
What is social anxiety disorder (SAD)?
The very normality of social anxiety has meant that SAD is often undiagnosed. The person becomes anxious as he/she anticipates humiliation and embarrassment days or weeks before the dreaded event (anticipatory anxiety). During the event he/she is immediately anxious and extremely uncomfortable throughout. After the event, the person may be plagued by concerns about their performance and how others judged them or thought of them. In this way a vicious circle is created. The person may feel that everyone else is far more competent in public and that he/she is not. Small mistakes may appear much more serious than they really are and the person feels that his/her every move or reaction is noticeable to others. Blushing may in itself be painfully humiliating to the person.
Wartime bravery award for women pilots
Flying unarmed, and without wireless or instrument training, they were at the mercy of both the weather and the Luftwaffe, and one in ten members of the ATA died for their country.Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister, is expected to make an announcement today about the survivors, awarding them a special badge of honour in recognition of their wartime work.Although the women did not play a part in the Battle of Britain, without their expertise in delivering planes to RAF squadrons to clear the skies of German bombers, the battle would never have got off the ground.Freydis Sharland, 87, from Oxfordshire, is one of only 15 women pilots still alive. She told how she took up the government's offer to subsidise her local flying club, giving her the chance to fly. "You were aware of the mortality rate and you were told when your friends were killed," she said.
